Matt Lowe Warms Up at SPJH!

Matt LoweMatt Lowe started his day with bird and was the most comfortable he has ever been on the first tee. Suprising for a player who has maybe touched a golf club twice a week over the off season (He is from Long Island and the weather has not been favorable), Rusty, Matt went to his “go-shot” yesterday and was happy to putt well.

Today, starting 2 strokes back, carded six birdies and continued his good play. Lowe felt great to almost make the playoff and finish one stroke back. He came into the Sea Pines Junior Heritage cold and is now looking forward to this season,

The long Islander gave a shout out to the grounds crew calling the course conditions “pristine” and the greens flawless.

Valdes Takes Girls’ Title

Paula ValdesAna Paula Valdes of Morelia, Mexico claimed the 2014 Sea Pines Junior Heritage. Valdes started the day with concern, she explained, “Every time I play Harbour Town, I am expecting the worst. Today I played my best.”

Valdes played, as she described it, was terrible at the IJGT IJGA Invitational back in December here at Harbour Town. She came into the round looking for revenge.

The day started with a pair of pars and then a double on the third. Instead of getting flustered, Ana dug in and played the rest of her front nine level par.

Ana carded a couple early bogies on the back but settled down with the lead in hand and played the tough finishing six holes with all pars.

“It feels amazing! Realizing that hard work does pay off… all that extra time being away from home paid off.” she explained.

Huskey Wins in Sudden Death

Keenan Huskey of Greenville, SC captured the 2014 Sea Pines Junior Heritage on the first hole sudden death over Ben Schlottman of Advance, NC.

Huskey, a high school senior, started the day poorly with a pair of opening bogies. Two-over-par after two holes was not what he envisioned when he stepped on the first tee one shot behind the leaders.

Despite the early nerves, he settled down and all that washed away with an eagle three on the par five fifth hole. From there he made five straight pars before jumping into a share of the lead with back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th.
